Miami Grand Prix potential strategies

Pirelli has opted for the medium compounds, with C2 as the hard compound, C3 as the medium and C4 as softs, exactly the same as for the Chinese Grand Prix. However, in our opinion the strategies will vary. First of all, no rain is expected throughout the whole weekend, so drivers will use more of the slick tyres, secondly, Miami is not an easy track to overtake. The long straight gives a great opportunity for that, but if you can’t do the overtake there, you are likely to be stuck behind a slower car for the next whole lap. Combination of these two factors leads to an optimal strategy of a one stop with Medium – Hard compounds.

Those who will have a spare set of soft tyres may be on the lookout for a late safety car – the track is narrow, and the concrete walls are very close to the racing lines, so any minor accident or contact and a Safety Car or even a Red Flag can throw a spanner into many strategies.
